Bir Shrestha Shaheed Lance Naik Munshi Abdur Rauf was a war hero of the Liberation was 1971 and he was born on 1st May in 1943 at Salamatpur Village (at present Rauf Nagar) of Madhukhali Upazilla in Faridpur. His father's name is Munshi Mehedi Hossain and his mother's name is Mst. Mokidunnesa. His father conducted prayers ar the mosque. Munshi Abdur Rouf joined East Pakistan Rifles as a soldier on 8 May, 1963. On 25 March 1971, he was posted in Chittagong EPR. All the soldiers who worked in his wing, joined the 8th East Regiment for pariticipating in the Liberation was when the fight for freedom started. Martyr Lance Naik Munshi Abdur Rauf was guarding Rangamati-Mohalchori waterways as machinegunner of the company. On 8th April 1971, the enemy entered in the defense area and started open firing. Only Martyr Lance Naik Munshi Abdur Rauf kept firing on the enemies with his machinegun and he breathed his last after getting hit by a mortar shell. His bravery, dutifulness, firm determination and patriotism has become an example for many generations to come. The Government of Bangladesh has awarded him with the highest honor of the state "Bir Srestha".
